Built-in Wi-Fi / NFC / Bluetooth Connectivity for Convenient Remote Shooting and Sharing
EOS 200D offers multiple wireless connection options for easy shooting, photo management and sharing. A built-in IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and NFC function are available for easy connection to smart device, Connect Station CS100, printers, EOS Utility etc. With “Camera Connect” application, remote Live View shooting and movie shooting from smartphones are possible, while images or MP4 movies can also be viewed and saved to smart device. A new Wi-Fi button added on the top panel enables easy one-touch Wi-Fi connection during shooting or standby mode for image transfer or remote shooting.
Furthermore, the newly supported Bluetooth® low energy technology can sustain connection between the camera and compatible smart devices3over a long period at low power consumption. Easy switching from Bluetooth constant connection to Wi-Fi connection is supported to perform various wireless remote functions such as image viewing and transfer. A new function that enables the camera to acquire GPS information from smart devices via Bluetooth4is also featured, making it easy to geotag images. Bluetooth® low energy technology also supports the use of Wireless Remote Controller BR-E1 for remote shooting from any direction within 5m from the camera5.
Two AF Systems to Maximize Photo Shooting Opportunity
EOS 200D incorporates “Dual Pixel CMOS AF” (DAF) technology which achieves the world’s fastest AF speed of 0.03s2, enabling users to capture fleeting moments easily with fast and accurate AF during Live View shooting. Live View shooting supports AF operation at low-light conditions down to EV-2 for easy capture of subjects even in dim environment, and provides 3 types of AF modes including [Face + Tracking] that is useful for portraits and moving subjects, [Live 1-Point AF] that sets a single focal position and [Smooth Zone AF] for focusing across a wider area. With DAF available throughout 80% of the frame area in horizontal and vertical directions, subjects of different topics and at any position in the frame can be captured as desired. A maximum continuous shooting speed of 3.5FPS with SERVO AF function is supported in Live View mode, bringing enhanced operability when dealing with moving subjects.
When shooting with viewfinder, EOS 200D utilizes an easy-to-use and reliable 9-point high-precision AF system featuring a center cross-type AF point for fast and accurate focusing. The 9 AF points located at different areas of the frame enable easy focusing even on off-center subject, allowing greater compositional flexibility. The camera also supports up to 5FPS high-speed continuous shooting to facilitate capture of a sequence of action in scenarios like sports or dance.
Superior Image Processing System, Functionality and High Image Quality Inherited from High-End Models
EOS 200D features a newly developed 24.2-megapixel APS-C format Canon CMOS sensor that utilizes new finer manufacturing process and circuitry design to bring higher image quality and sensitivity. Coupled with the new DIGIC 7 digital image processor that is capable of rendering the finest details in rich tones at the highest level of precision, high-quality portraits as usual with smooth, beautiful skin tones and crisp, detail-filled landscape photos are ensured. Thanks to the outstanding image processing system, a wide standard ISO range of ISO 100-25600 (expandable to ISO 51200 (H)) that is comparable to the mid-range models is supported to facilitate shooting in various situations. In-camera “Distortion Correction” and “Diffraction Correction” are also newly added to correct lens distortion. With correction data for all supported lens already incorporated6in the camera, excellent images can be achieved right from the camera.
In addition, EOS 200D offers a “Fine Detail” Picture Style that emphasizes fine edges and material textures, new selectable Auto (Ambience Priority) and Auto (White Priority) settings under Auto White Balance and newly supports “Silent Single Shooting” and “Silent Continuous Shooting” at 2.5FPS for shooting in stately circumstances or quiet restaurants. The ability to take up to 840 shots with viewfinder on a fully charged battery and the support of SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (compatible with UHS-I Speed Class 3 standard) also make it an ideal camera for everyday use.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Full HD 50p/59.94p EOS Movie for Expanded Creativity
EOS 200D is equally exceptional in both photo and movie shooting. It supports 50p/59.94p Full HD EOS Movie for easy creation of smooth slow-motion movies. Coupled with the smooth and precise Movie Servo AF powered by “Dual Pixel CMOS AF” (DAF), beautiful movies with clear and detailed images can be achieved effortlessly. Users can also add special effects to the movie by applying any of the 5 in-camera Movie Creative Filters.
In addition, EOS 200D supports MP4 movie format and IPB (Light) movie compression method to facilitate easy movie sharing via smartphones. To help users fully unleash the power of movie creation, an in-camera Full HD HDR (High Dynamic Range) Movie7shooting can help retain details in highlight when shooting in high-contrast scenes, while a new Full HD Time-lapse movie function8which provides options of fixing the exposure at the first frame or adjusting the exposure according to the scene brightness of each frame can ensure easy creation of the desired result.
